Scholarship and project competitions for year 6 of the Asthma in the Workplace Center
We submitted an interesting number of applications to the Scientific Committee for the scholarship and project competitions, which had a March 6 deadline. We are pleased to announce the submissions that were approved by the committee and the Board of Directors.

For the scholarship competition, we received  eight applications in the postdoctoral fellow category, master’s and Ph.D. student category, and two in the summer student category.
The following students have been recommended to the Board of Directors by the Scientific Committee and will be receiving funding:    

  • Sara Sanchez, summer student, supervised by Karim Maghni PhD;
  • Marc-Olivier Déziel Malouin, summer student, supervised by Karim Maghni PhD;
  • Nataly Tanios, master's student, supervised by Karim Maghni PhD;
  • Myrella Bergeron-Prévost, master's student, supervised by Karim Maghni PhD;
  • Saba Al Heialy, doctoral student, supervised by Dr James Martin;
  • Grégory Moullec, postdoctoral fellow, supervised by Dr Manon Labrecque.

 

For the project competition, the members of the Scientific Committee and the Board selected seven projects. Several projects include collaborators from other provinces and other countries, as well as scientific and strategic partners. 

 
The following projects were chosen :   

  1. Title: Démonstration de la nécessité d’établir des normes de sécurité pour l’exposition aux nanoparticules prenant en compte la condition respiratoire du travailleur. Researchers:Karim Maghni, DSc, PhD, Stéphane Hallé, Eng, PhD, Claude Emond, PhD. Partners: Réseau de recherche en santé et sécurité au travail du Québec (RRSSTQ). FRSQ et IRSST *.   2. Titlre:Validation de questionnaires de symptômes respiratoires pour l’asthme au travail : deux outils pour la surveillance de travailleurs à risque. Researchers: Manon Labrecque MD, MSc, Denyse Gautrin PhD et Jean-Luc Malo MD, Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal. Partners:CSST; CSSS Jeanne-Mance.   3. Title:Mannitol Inhalation challenge: Concomitant Assessment of Bronchial Responsiveness and Sputum Cell Counts in Subjects with Occupational Asthma. Researchers: Catherine Lemière, John Brannan, Sandra D. Anderson and Jean-Luc Malo.   4. Title:Markers of Inflammation and of Remodelling in Induced Sputum of Car-Painters Exposed to Diisocyanates. Researchers:Denyse Gautrin, PhD, Karim Maghni, DSc, PhD, Jean-Luc Malo, MD.   5. Title: Documentation de l'exposition au travail chez les applicateurs de vernis et laques dans le secteur du plancher de bois. Researchers: Denyse Gautrin, PhD, Nicole Goyer, CIH, Jean-Luc Malo, MD et Brigitte Roberge, ROH. Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal, IRSST. Partners: Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et sécurité du travail, Daniel Nadeau, MD, MSc, Régie régionale de la santé et des services sociaux.
     
  6. Title: Le test de provocation bronchique au mannitol dans l'évaluation du syndrome d'irritation bronchique et de l'asthme professionnelle avec période de latence. Researchers: Jean-Luc Malo MD, Catherine Lemière MD MSc,  Manon Labrecque MD MSc, André Cartier MD. Student: David Miedinger, postdoctoral fellow.
     
  7. Title:A follow-up assessment of rhinitis severity and health related quality of life in patients with occupational rhinitis. Researchers: Roberto Castano MD PhD, Denyse Gautrin, PhD, Jean-Luc Malo MD. Student: David Miedinger, postdoctoral fellow
