Scholarship and project competitions for year 6 of the Asthma in the Workplace Center
We submitted an interesting number of applications to the Scientific Committee for the scholarship and project competitions, which had a March 6 deadline. We are pleased to announce the submissions that were approved by the committee and the Board of Directors.

The Public Health Department, a strategic partner of the Center for Asthma in the Workplace, hosted the meeting of CAW partners and researchers held on November 20, 2008.
Researchers and partners of the Center for Asthma in the Workplace gathered at Sacré-Cœur de Montréal research center for their summer meeting last June.
The time has come to call for applications for our last annual competition – how fast time passes! We are very proud of the success of the activities funded by the Center, as confirmed by the recent CIHR evaluation. We will not be changing procedures for this last competition. Applications for the scholarship and project competitions will be evaluated by a peer-review committee of five university assessors from different research disciplines.

We are pleased to announce that the Center for Asthma in the Workplace will present an Education Day on Asthma in the Workplace , in Quebec, December 2008. The workshop will take place at Delta Hotel, Québec, Québec, on December 3rd, 2008. Organized by the Center for Asthma in the Workplace , the session" Ateleirs sur l'asthme au travail" will be held before Quebec France Symposium as a pre-conference Workshops. The session is intended for all Health professionals with an interest in the issue of asthma in the workplace.

After the researchers' meeting on November 29,2007, we forwarded your proposals for the scholarship competition and projects for 2008 to the Board of Directors. We are initiating the application procedures for the scholarship competition and projects.

On July 5, researchers from McGill University who are members of the Center for Asthma in the Workplace hosted a meeting of partners and researchers from the Center at Meakins-Christie Laboratories. Special thanks go to Dr. James Martin and Dr Qutayba Hamid for helping to set up the event.
At this meeting, we were pleased to welcome, among other guests, three new researchers; Michel Gérin, PhD, Département de santé environnementale et santé au travail de l’Université de Montréal, Dr Martin Desrosiers, ORL Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal et Simon Bacon, PhD, Department of Exercise Science, Concordia University. We continued with principal investigators of each project selected for 2006. They gave brief presentations, of their interesting work followed by a lively question period. We invited the members to the next meeting, slated for November, students who received funding in 2007 will present their projects.
The third edition of the Jack Pepys Workshop on Asthma in the Workplace was held on May 18 and 19, 2007, in the amphitheater of the Pavillon Jean-Coutu on the campus of the Université de Montréal.

The next scholarship and project competition for the Center for Asthma in the Workplace will be launched in early January.
Researchers and partners of the Center for Asthma in the Workplace gathered for their autumn meeting at the Sacré-Cœur de Montréal research center, discussing the latest news and activities.
The meeting will start with a get-together in the evening of Thursday May 17 2007 from 7 h30 pm. to 10 h pm. at the musée de la Pointe-à-Callière in Old-Montréal. The Workshop will be held at the Amphitheatre, Jean-Coutu building located on the campus of Université de Montréal The scientific discussion will start at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18 and end on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The formal dinner will be served in the Grand Hall, Roger-Gaudry building of the Université de Montréal, a concert will follow, presented by the Chamber orchestra ensemble of Université de Montréal .
