After the researchers' meeting on November 29,2007, we forwarded your proposals for the scholarship competition and projects for 2008 to the Board of Directors. We are initiating the application procedures for the scholarship competition and projects.
The budget for the scholarship competition includes one post-doctoral fellowship at $36,750, three master's or Ph.D. scholarships for a total of $60,000, and one summer-student scholarship at $4,500.
To apply for this competition, please submit the following documents:
- the student's CV,a letter explaining his or her reasons for applying and the most recent transcripts;
- a presentation(maximum one page) by the researcher(s)at the Centre who will be supervising the student; the name of the project, the student's role, and the academic program in which the student is enrolled(formaster's or Ph.D. students).
Although it is possible to apply for an extension after the first year of support, we encourage researcherssupervising students who are currently receiving scholarships from the Centre to do everything in their power to find funding for the students from other sources(other scholarship programs or personal funding).
At the same time, we are announcing the competition to various centres with an interest in occupational asthma in Canada and abroad. If we receive applications, depending on the expertise and interest of the student or fellow, we will forward their applications for your consideration, and if you are interested, you can submit an application for the competition.
The budget for the project competition includes seven funds at $20,000 each. The one-page, single-spaced letter of intention should include the following information:
- name of project;
- identification ofthe principal investigator (no more than two applications for each principal investigator)
- researchers fromthe Centre, scientific partners (IRSST) and strategic partners (public health department, CSST) involved; as well national or international collaboration, specifically projects that involve professionals and researchers from developing countries;
- the names of students working on the project (whether they are funded by the Centre or not);
- the project, including an introduction, objective and hypotheses, methods and significance;
- some information on how the $20,000 budget would be spent (equipment, salary, etc.).
In the selection process, preference will be given to projects that:
- include researchersfrom different disciplines;
- will produce spin-off effects or collaborative efforts with scientific or strategic partners (public health department, CSST);
- enable students to make a real contribution. 4) involve national and/or internal partnership, including those from developing countries.
Furthermore, this year, funding of $30,000 will be allocated to a project that involves participation by researchers from two centers supported by the Institute of Population and Public Health program. This funding will be allocated as 20 000 $ from our Center and 10 000 $ from the Lea-Roback Center on social inequalities in health care (www.centrelearoback.ca/centre/). We previously sent you the list of researchers of the Lea-Roback Center who are interested by this networking.
The deadline for applications is Friday, March 7, 2008, at 5 p.m.
Thank you for your active implication in the Center.
